RFU Update & Pre-Season Fixtures Announced

Garstang Rugby Club has started pre-season training and is looking forward to a big season ahead.

The good news is that the RFU has reached an agreement with the Government that full contact training can resume from Monday 19th July.  Full contact 15-a-side friendly games will be permitted from 7th August, with the new season set to start as normal for the whole community game in September.

With that in mind, Garstang has set up a really exciting and challenging pre-season programme for the club.  On August 14th, a mixed Club XV will play at home to Orrell. This will be followed by a similar squad game away at Wigan on August 21st and finally, the 1st and 2nd XVs travel to Clitheroe on August 28th for the final games before league action resumes on September 4th.

The full pre-season programme is as follows:

14th August

Club XV vs Orrell (h) KO 15:00

21st August

Club XV vs Wigan (a) KO 15:00

28th August

1st XV vs Clitheroe (a) KO 15:00

2nd XV vs Clitheroe (a) KO 15:00

Garstang’s Director of Rugby, Simon Whittingham, said “Having not played rugby for almost 18 months, the players are desperate to get out there and play some games.

“With that in mind, we have set them a really challenging pre-season against three really good clubs.  Personally, I am really excited to see how the players react against teams of this standard because, broadly speaking, this is the level that we will be playing at week-in-week-out in the ADM Lancashire County RU Championship.”

Pre-season training continues at the club from 19:00 every Tuesday and Thursday and new players are always welcome.
